Cigna reports earnings rise in Q4

Cigna reported Thursday that its fourth-quarter adjusted income from operations rose to $486 million-- $1.87 per share--up from $475 million--$1.80 per share--at the same time in 2014. For 2015, its consolidated revenues rose 8 percent to $37.9 billion. Its adjusted income from operations for 2015 was $2.3 billion--or $8.66 per share.

These results reflect "strong contributions from our commercial employer and specialty businesses, as well as unfavorable medical costs in our individual and government businesses," the insurer said in its earnings report. Cigna is currently banned from selling or marketing new Medicare Part C or D plans by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Earnings report
