CMS to test enhanced medication therapy model for Medicare Part D

Tools

The federal government will test a model that it hopes will improve medication compliance and reduce medication problems among Medicare Part D beneficiaries. The Part D Enhanced Medication Therapy Management model will "give prescription drug plans stronger incentives and flexibility to improve prescription drug safety and efficacy," Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Acting Administrator Patrick Conway said in an announcement. In short, it will allow participating Medicare prescription drug plans to offer certain high-risk beneficiaries targeted assistance in order to optimize their treatment plan and avoid medication-related issues. CMS will test the model for five years beginning Jan. 1, 2017, in five regions around the country. Announcement
