GOP Senators introduce new healthcare plan in Florida

Tools

Republican Senate leaders in Florida offered a healthcare compromise Tuesday to the ongoing budget battle that's threatening to shut down state government, reported NBC Miami. The new plan--which was immediately rejected by Gov. Rick Scott (R)--would continue to rely on federal funding linked to the Affordable Care Act as well as enable low-income residents to purchase coverage through a new state-run exchange. Additionally, the plan would allow consumers receiving coverage through the federal exchange to continue to do so instead of shifting to an expanded Medicaid program. Scott noted that the new proposal would cost the state $5 billion over 10 years. The debate surfaced after Scott rejected Medicaid expansion in lieu of federal funding to reimburse hospitals for treating the uninsured, which the Obama administration has threatened to cut. Article
