HHS highlights breast cancer meds that are covered at no cost to members
The Affordable Care Act requires most insurers and employer plans to cover tamoxifen and raloxifene without co-pays or other out-of-pocket costs for women at high risk for breast cancer, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. "These are risk-reducing medications which have been shown in randomized, controlled trials to significantly reduce the relative risk for certain types of breast cancer in women who are at an increased risk for this disease. But there have been questions as to whether these medications are considered prevention for the purpose of consumer protections," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) wrote yesterday in a blog post.
