Many employees not aware of workplace wellness programs

While health plans' workplace wellness programs have gained steam in recent years, many employees are still not aware that they exist, according to a survey from the public relations and communications agency Brodeur Partners. Though previous research has indicated that such programs are quite prevalent among larger U.S. employers, only about 34 percent of individuals surveyed by the firm said their employer offered a wellness program. "Either employees aren't getting the memo about the programs that exist in their workplaces, or they don't consider what their employers are offering to be true wellness programs," Brodeur Partners CEO Andrea Coville said in a statement about the findings. Some employees, meanwhile, are aware of their employer's program but choose not to participate, citing privacy concerns and lack of confidence that the program would help them or be run successfully by their company.
