Obama apologizes for canceled insurance plans

President Barack Obama apologized to Americans who will lose their health plans because they don't provide all the benefits required by the Affordable Care Act. "I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me," he said Thursday in an exclusive interview with NBC News. "Obviously we didn't do a good enough job in terms of how we crafted the law," Obama said. "And, you know, that's something I regret. That's something we're gonna do everything we can to get fixed." The personal apology follows media reports that the Obama administration knew for at least three years that 40 percent to 67 percent of Americans in the individual market would lose their insurance plans under healthcare reform, FierceHealthPayer previously reported. Last week, Obama noted that although insurers are canceling some plans, it's because healthcare reform is weeding out "bad apple" insurers. Article
