Three Minnesota insurers oppose UCare's bid for second chance at contract

Tools

Three Minnesota-based health insurers--Blue Plus, HealthPartners and Medica--hope that a county judge denies rival insurer UCare's bid for a second chance at business through a public health insurance contract. In a court filing supplied to the Star Tribune, the three insurers say that the transition of thousands of public exchange enrollees would be threatened if a judge interferes with competitive bidding. Last month, Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton announced the results from a competitive bidding process, which would save taxpayers some $450 million but would also drop UCare from providing coverage to Medicaid enrollees. Earlier this month, UCare sued the state and asked for a temporary injunction to stop the new contracts from being issued next year. In response to UCare's action, Blue Plus said "it would be fundamentally unfair to change the rules of this process now and force the Department Human Services to contract with UCare." Article
