About 43K have lost ACA subsidies due to tax issues, IRS says
Because they failed to fix a tax return for 2014, about 43,000 Affordable Care Act enrollees have lost their premium tax credits, meaning they are paying full price for their health plans, officials from the Internal Revenue told The Hill.
The IRS has repeatedly warned many consumers that they stand to lose their subsidies due to tax filing issues, recently saying that 1.4 million households that received financial aid for ACA plans failed to account for it in their returns.
"This is an issue that we're highly sensitive to," Healthcare.gov CEO Kevin Counihan told reporters last week, according to The Hill. "We've enhanced our application with new reminders, new pop-ups and other ways to try to assure people what they need to do to make sure that they comply and file the right forms." Article
