Aetna plans to participate in about 15 health insurance exchanges throughout the country by 2014, its chief executive told analysts and investors Wednesday. And the company thinks the increase in new members from exchanges will help contribute to its growth, reported Reuters. "More and more consumers are going to be buying their healthcare, even if the employer-sponsored system survives," Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini said at the meeting. "A lot of things that we do today are no longer necessary to the end buyer." As the insurance industry moves toward the exchanges, he said the managed care business will fundamentally change. Article
